COVID 19 / Coronavirus
COVID-19 is an illness that can affect your lungs and airways and It’s caused by a virus called Coronavirus.
Why the name COVID-19?
Scientists gave the strain an interim name of 2019-nCoV, accounting for the year of discovery, its status as a “novel” virus, and its family name (CoV). SARS-CoV-2 is genetically related to the coronavirus responsible for the SARS outbreak of 2003. The World Health Organisation states that from a risk communications perspective using the name SARS can have an unintended consequence in terms of creating unnecessary fear for some populations, especially in Asia which was worst affected by the SARS outbreak in 2003.
Symptoms:
Cough
Fever
Sore throat
Shortness of breath
Preventative tips:
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Stay home when you are sick.
Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
